Sashakt’s sustainable development programme is based on balancing people’s economic and social needs with the preservation and enhancement of natural resources and ecosystems. It emphasises on maximizing recycling which in turn will bring better economic returns, improving the health of people and the surrounding community, and minimizing hazardous dumping. There are three programmes under this vertical i.e. waste management, conserving flora and fauna and organic farming.
Sashakt Foundation’s urban waste management programme emphasises on maximizing recycling which in turn will bring better economic returns, improving the health of people and the surrounding community, and minimizing hazardous dumping. The Sashakt initiative is a participatory approach engaging the community, children in schools and waste workers as follows.
- Conduct awareness programmes in community, households and schools
- Identify and train champions in locality who will motivate and play the role of watch dog
- Train waste collectors and provide them safety equipment.
- Collect and transport segregated waste
- Develop composting solutions to handle wet waste
- Segregate dry waste like paper and plastics etc. and supply to bigger recyclers
Sashakt Foundation works to protect the environment through the means of education and various awareness programs. Sashakt foundation helps to disseminate the information of flora and fauna and makes people aware the importance of flora and fauna as it brings life existence. Programmes range from awareness sessions in schools and communities under a curriculum developed for this purpose. All sessions are activity based and fun to be a part off. Sashakt also takes up many tree plantation activities and conducts rallies and advocacy sessions on the issue of environment conservation. All the trees planted by Sashakt are taken care off for at least a year so that they survive.
Organic farming sustains the health of soil, ecosystem and people. It relies on ecological processes, biodiversity and cycles adapted to local conditions, rather than the use of inputs with adverse effects. Organic agriculture combines tradition, innovation and science to benefit the shared environment and sustain good quality of life for all times to come.Sashakt promotes use of biological materials, avoiding synthetic substances to maintain soil fertility and ecological balance thereby minimizing pollution and wastage. It also promotes ecologically balanced agricultural principles like crop rotation, green manure, organic waste, biological pest control, etc.
